Ireland has more host families than any other country worldwide, and in keeping with long-standing tradition, AHA families are compensated for hosting students. Nonetheless, families are eager to host simply for the opportunity to meet Americans and show off the treasures of the Irish civilization. Ireland's historic castles and monuments make for fascinating sightseeing discovery, as does the scenic countryside.
The "Irish economic miracle" of the past two decades has made Ireland one of the most wealthy nations in Europe, so expect to experience a blend of modern comforts and old world charm.
